What if we paused every day to intentionally reach out to serve someone? Imagine a world where we all took the time to notice the needs of those around us. How would this change our communities?
Mostly, though, we’re merely trying to get through our own days. We’ll help when someone asks but we tend to be a bit remiss in noticing the troubles around us. We tend to be unaware of crises when they do not impact us. Sometimes, too, people shy away from asking for help. Other times people wander off into the wrong direction and do not even know that they need a friend’s guiding hand. Regardless of the situation, people struggle every day everywhere.
Let’s be honest… you and I also would welcome kind words from time to time. Wouldn’t it be phenomenal to receive an email or a snail-mail card from a friend filled with a personal note of encouragement?
Who to Help
When we start to look around, we find that needs abound. Resist the temptation to feel overwhelmed and return to blissful non-noticing. Prayerfully go through the prompts below. Ask the Holy Spirit to bring to mind the person who needs your voice at that moment. Whether you have a few minutes in the stillness of the morning or time for lunch during the day, reach out to someone today
1. Who needs encouragement?
2. Who is struggling spiritually?
3. Who have you not chatted with in a while?
4. Who recently asked to have coffee or lunch?
5. Who needs to be confronted?
6. Who achieved something special this week?
7. Who should be challenged to move forward?
8. Who is hurting right now?
9. Who needs someone to pray for them?
10. Who has a family member in pain?
As we serve others, the Lord is glorified. We serve out of the abundant grace and love that He pours upon us. May we become more sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s gentle nudgings and be His hands and feet and voice and ears daily (and more).
